The words conflict and confusion reminded me of the difficulty Marcello was having in trying to figure out what he should do as far as Wendell's request was concerned.The conflict was between Marcello and Wendell as well as within Marcello himself. He was torn between wanting to do what Wendell asked of him to protect their friendship or at least what he perceived as a friendship and the feeling that he needed to protect Jasmine from something he didn't quite understand. This led to much confusion on Marcello's part. Toward the end of the chapters Marcello was beginning to understand the true motive behind Wendell's request to meet Jasmine. He was also beginning to understand that the "real world" wasn't always a good and safe place to be in.
